Become an Alexandria Symphony Orchestra Volunteer!

The ASO is grateful for the work of its volunteers who warmly greet patrons and help settle them in to enjoy the performances. Come join us and be a part of this great organization! Click the “Performances” tab above to see the program for this season.

If you would like to join our team, please contact Christina Kramer, Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer.alexsym@gmail.com

Volunteer Duties

Usher – Greet patrons, check tickets, help patrons find their seats, assist patrons with mobility challenges, assemble and distribute programs, help at the on-site box office, tidy up the hall after the performance. Arrive at the concert hall 90 minutes before the performance.

Support special events – greet guests, serve refreshments, set up and clean up tables.

Office help – prepare mailings, filing, and other administrative tasks.

For most assignments, volunteers must be able to stand for up to one hour, walk and climb stairs, and carry boxes weighing about 10 pounds.
Volunteers must be 16 years or older.

ASO requires that all staff members, volunteers, patrons, and musicians be fully vaccinated, and they must wear masks the entire time they are in the concert hall.

Comments from our veteran volunteers

“There are several personal benefits for me–hearing the beautiful concerts performed by the ASO, serving with congenial usher colleagues and ASO staff, and providing a needed service to the greater Alexandria community.”

“What a great way to hear classical music! It’s a win-win – I get to attend performances for free and have the satisfaction of helping others. You can’t beat this!”

“The music is great, the other volunteers are nice and you’ll get to know returning audience members.  It’s an uplifting experience to see so many happy people.”

“We volunteer because we have always appreciated the arts and it’s our way of giving back. Volunteering helps us be a part of the community and have a ‘behind the scenes’ look at how much time and effort goes into preparing for these events.”
