Ukrainian-British pianist Dinara Klinton was born in Kharkiv and began her musical education at the age of five. She studied at the Moscow Central Music School, the Moscow State Conservatory, and the Royal College of Music in London. Following top prize at the 2006 Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition at the age of eighteen, together with prize-winning success at the Cleveland International Piano Competition and the International Paderewski Piano Competition, she began an international career that has taken her to major concert halls and festivals throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
Klinton has performed in many of the world’s foremost venues, including London’s Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Wigmore Hall, Cleveland’s Severance Music Center, the Berliner Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Gewandhaus Leipzig, New York’s 92nd Street Y, Tokyo’s Sumida Triphony Hall, and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. She has also appeared at festivals including Progetto Martha Argerich in Lugano, the Cheltenham Music Festival, the Aldeburgh Proms, and La Roque d’Anthéron.
Known for her expressive depth, natural virtuosity, and thoughtful approach to the music she performs, Klinton is especially admired for her interpretations of the Romantic and Russian repertoire, including works by Liszt, Chopin, Prokofiev, and Rachmaninoff. Sir András Schiff described her interpretation of Liszt’s Transcendental Études as “astonishing,” calling her “a real virtuoso, a born pianist, a very natural player.”
Klinton’s recordings have received widespread international recognition. Her album of Liszt’s Transcendental Études for GENUIN Classics was selected as BBC Music Magazine’s Recording of the Month, while her distinguished discography also includes Chopin for the Fryderyk Chopin Institute and the complete Prokofiev Piano Sonatas for Piano Classics.
This year, Dinara Klinton serves as a jury member of the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition and the International Piano Competition “Ciudad de Málaga.”
