Sofya Gulyak made history in 2009 as the first woman to win the top prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition. Since then, she has performed worldwide to great acclaim. Gulyak has won top prizes at numerous international piano competitions, including William Kapell, Maj Lind, Tivoli, Isang Yun, Busoni, and Marguerite Long. She has performed at renowned venues such as La Scala, Salle Pleyel, Tokyo Opera City, Kennedy Center, and Walt Disney Hall. She has collaborated with major orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, and Orchestre National de France. Her recordings, featuring works by Medtner, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Brahms, have received glowing reviews from Gramophone, The Guardian, and American Record Guide. A dedicated educator, she has taught at the Royal College of Music and Kazan State Conservatory, served on competition juries, and led masterclasses worldwide. Born in Kazan, Russia, she trained at Kazan State Conservatory, the Imola Piano Academy, and the Royal College of Music. Her performances have been broadcast internationally on BBC, France Musique, and other major networks.
