Emil de Cou, guest conductor

Acclaimed conductor leads Alexandria Symphony Orchestra in a concert featuring violin virtuoso Sarah Chang

Alexandria, VAEmil de Cou, acclaimed Conductor of the NSO @ Wolftrap Festival and Music Director at Pacific Northwest Ballet, will conduct the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming concert on November 16-17 at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria.  The concert features internationally-renowned violinist Sarah Chang as part of the ASO’s 70th anniversary season.

The upcoming concert marks the ASO debut of both Emil de Cou and Sarah Chang. Ms. Chang will be performing Bruch’s Violin Concert No. 1 in G minor, one of her favorite pieces and a track on her 2009 album.

Titled “To Transform,” the November concert opens with music from Michael Giacchino’s soundtrack from the 2009 animated film Up, which won an Academy Award for Best Original Score.  The program continues with works by composers who became the voice of their generation: Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings; Aaron Copland’s Suite from Billy the Kid, and Modest Mussorgsky’s “Dawn on the Moscow River.”

The ASO’s 70th anniversary season continues in February when Maestro Kim Allen Kluge, ASO Music Director, returns to conduct from the piano as featured soloist for Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.  Visit www.alexsym.org for more details about the entire 2013-2014 season.
